About

MY name is Gemma – I am a happily married 34-year-old mother of 3. Next year I’m going to do something pretty amazing by my standards. I’m going to run the 2012 Virgin London Marathon. I’ll be doing it for a local charity, the Laura Mcphee Memorial Fund, and I feel honoured to be able to do so.

In May 2009 I weighed in at 20 stone and embarked on a crazy journey that has brought me to where I am now. I now work as a Fitness Instructor teaching Zumba Fitness across my area most nights of the week. I am an active member of Cleethorpes Athletics Club, I run around 20 miles a week give or take depending on what I am training for at that time,  and have represented my club in a variety of races from 5k to half marathon. The best bit is I’ve managed to lose almost half of my entire body weight in the process.

I intend the first few posts of this blog to cover the back story to how I’ve got to this point from being morbidly obese and then I will begin my journey to London which I’m sure is going to be quite a ride!

Thanks for reading x

  1. Sorry. I would like to continue to follow your posts, but never followed a “blog” before. How can I receive your blog every day? I am very inspired by your story.

Hi there, I am pretty sure there is a follow button along the top in which you get email alerts from WordPress when a new post is made. I’m not exactly sure how that works though. It is my intention to update possibly around 3 times a week though so perhaps you could just stick the page in your faves and keep checking back. I’m really delighted you are so keep to read and are finding this inspiring. I’m humbled by the level of support I’ve had with all this. Thank you x
